I Had An Affair-It Saved My Marriage But Do I Tell All Now

Firstly ask yourself did your spouse know about the affair or did he/she suspect you were having an affair? If the answer is no then there is no reason to tell all about it now. Leave things as they are, why bring up something that could probably cause you to shatter your marriage, especially when your spouse has no idea that you were even having an affair.

When people who have had affairs decide to tell their spouse about it, they are not doing it to be honest with their spouse but rather to ease their guilty conscience. They want to relieve themselves of the burden of carrying around their guilty feelings and want to be forgiven for what they have done. This will only cause real trouble in the marriage as your spouse will probably never look at you the same way and will probably be wondering while he/she is at work, if you are still continuing having an affair.

If you feel really guilty about that affair that you had and would like to tell someone because you feel as though you can't live with this guilt on your conscience anymore, maybe you should consider telling your parish priest. He will be your best choice of person, because he is committed to keep anything that you confess to him confidential and you can be assured that he won't tell anyone. This will be twofold because not only will your parish priest forgive you and give you some prayers to say for your transgression but he will also ask for forgiveness on your behalf.

Above all do not tell your best friend, because as the saying goes your best friend can become your worst enemy. Telling your best friend about your affair can be very dangerous because if you two should have a falling out, you can be almost certain that he/she is going to tell someone about your secrets and also bear in mind that your best friend will most likely also be friends with your spouse. You know how people can be very cruel and unkind when they are angry, so it is possible that he/she might be so upset with you that they will most likely tell your spouse about your affair, which will definitely ruin your marriage. Take no chances. Tell no one about your affair except maybe your parish priest and your marriage will be safe.
